Clare Dodgson to leave the Legal Services Commission

The Legal Services Commission’s Chief Executive, Clare Dodgson, is to leave the LSC on 30 June 2006.
Clare Dodgson joined the Commission as its Chief Executive on 2 June 2003.
LSC Chair Sir Michael Bichard said:
“Clare made an immediate difference to the way in which the Commission worked. She was instrumental in developing our Vision, in getting the Commission more focused on the vulnerable people it exists to serve, in introducing a new rigour into performance measurement and management and in promoting the importance of leadership. She successfully led us through an organisation review that has created clear accountability for results and a platform for delivery.
“Sadly, at the end of May 2005 Clare suffered a serious fall at her home. This significantly exacerbated an existing back injury and Clare has been unable to return to work since the accident. She has been in chronic pain and the prognosis is not yet clear. With continuing care and treatment a return to work will be possible. However, how long that will take is not clear.
“Clare recognises that this is a particularly demanding time for both the Commission and the Department for Constitutional Affairs. It is a time at which visible leadership is essential to maintain confidence within and outside the Commission. Because this is something that she cannot provide right now, Clare has agreed that it would be in the best interests of the Commission for her to move on and allow the process of recruiting a permanent replacement to begin. She will be compensated in line with the terms of the Commission’s early severance and early retirement arrangements.
“The Executive Team and I are sorry to see Clare go. We wish her the quickest possible recovery and hope that she will soon be able to return to the kind of leadership role in which she has already contributed so much.”
While a new Chief Executive is recruited, Brian Harvey will continue as Acting Chief Executive. A recruitment advertisement will be published on 4 June.
