LSC publishes analysis of responses to London Competitive Tendering consultation paper
Thursday 18 May 2006
The Legal Services Commission (LSC) has today published its analysis of the responses it received to the consultation paper published in 2005, which proposed introducing competitive tendering for ‘criminal lower’ work in London.
The LSC received 350 responses, the highest number ever, to the consultation paper, Improving Value for Money for Publicly Funded Criminal Defence Services in London. Responses were received from a large number of representative bodies, campaign groups and individual legal aid providers. The full list of respondents is published in the analysis.
Lord Carter of Coles, who is undertaking a Review of Legal Aid Procurement, has recommended that his proposals replace the LSC’s plans for London Competitive Tendering. All the individual responses and our analysis of them have been made available to Lord Carter and his team. We look forward to publication of Lord Carter’s final recommendations.
Derek Hill, Director of the Criminal Defence Service at the LSC, said: “The LSC is grateful to all those who responded to the consultation. I’m sure Lord Carter will find the responses and our analysis of them a useful resource as he develops his proposals for legal aid procurement.”
