How we're reviewing quality assurance
Quality Working Group
We have been reviewing our quality assurance processes and procedures that affect legal aid practitioners. This includes peer review. The review has now been completed and a report has been published.
This review follows our agreement with The Law Society re: the Unified Contract. The Quality Working Group included representatives from:
- The Law Society
- Solicitors Regulation Authority
- Resolution
- Ministry of Justice
- Institute of Advanced Legal Studies
- Advice Services Alliance.
Key areas of the review were:
- Peer Review
- Quality standards
The group worked together effectively and with a sense of common purpose. Collaboration through the QWG was extremely useful to explore and discuss quality assurance developments and issues. It was agreed that the objectives set for the review of the LSC quality framework were long-term aims and should be part of ongoing work between all the parties
As all parties are content with the findings and recommendations in the report the LSC and MoJ will not issue a formal response to the report.
Aims of the review
The aim of the review was to have a quality assurance framework that is:
- objective and fair
- integrated with other systems
- avoids duplication.
