Making Legal Rights a Reality
Making Legal Rights a Reality is our strategy for the CLS. It's based findings from the Legal Services Research Centre. Key proposals include:
-
the development of Community Legal Advice Centres (CLACs) and Community Legal Advice Networks (CLANs) in the most deprived communities where clients often need help on a range of social welfare problems.

expanding the Community Legal Advice telephone helpline and advice services
-
informing and educating members of the public about their legal rights and responsibilities
-
undertaking strategic action to address common legal problems at their source.
Making Legal Rights a Reality for Children and Families
This is our five-year strategy for family legal aid and sets out:
- our priorities for funding family legal aid
- our framework for decision making
- how we intend to work with other parts of the family justice system
Welsh speakers can read the strategy on the Wales office pages.
More information on the family strategy is on our Family pages.
Making Legal Rights a Reality in Wales
This is a joint policy paper between the LSC and the Welsh Assembly Government (WAG) and provides a framework for delivering the Community Legal Service in Wales.
The paper explains how we will implement key policy areas in the CLS Strategy Making Legal Rights a Reality. It will take account of:
- devolution
- the Welsh language
- Welsh culture and geography.
Publicly Funded Family Mediation: the Way Forward
This is our strategy for family mediation. It sets out our future direction and builds upon the recommendations of both the National Audit Office and the Public Accounts Committee.
It focuses on 3 key areas:
- value - encourage an increase in the number of family disputes resolved through mediation, as mediation can be cheaper, quicker and less acrimonious for clients.
- access - improve client access to family mediation (both information and services).
- quality - improve the quality and effectiveness of family mediatiors.
It will not be the subject of formal consultation. We will consult as appropriate with key stakeholders on decisions we take as a result of our strategy.
