More about the Wales region
Wales has a population of 2.9 million, approximately 5% of that of the UK.
Two thirds of the population live in the valleys and coastal plain of the south. There is also a significant concentration in the north east. The rest of Wales is mainly rural.
The National Assembly for Wales, under a First Minister and Cabinet, now largely governs Wales on domestic matters.
Legal aid has not been devolved and the Ministry of Justice continues to fund the work of the LSC in Wales.
