About the North region
The LSC's North region is made up of four offices in Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds and South Tyneside.
The area is wide and diverse and faces important social challenges:
- in the North West, eligibility for legal aid is higher than average
- around 20% of the North East, Yorkshire & Humberside working population are unemployed or claiming incapacity benefits
- employment in the North West is below the UK average and there are pockets of particularly high unemployment, such as Merseyside
- the North East has some of the lowest proportion of disposable household income.
